Beaudry Electric is a full service distributor for major encoder manufacturers. Each manufacturer we represent offers a range of models targeted to specific industries or application types. The breadth of their combined offering allows us to satisfy the majority of application requirements.
Rotary encoders are electro-mechanical devices that convert the angular position of a shaft as it rotates through 360 degrees or more to an analog or digital signal. In addition to recording a specific angular position it is also able to record the number of shaft rotations that occur over a period of time.
There are two types of encoders: absolute and incremental. The output of absolute encoders indicates the current position of the shaft, making them angle transducers. The output of incremental encoders provides information about the motion of the shaft, which is typically further processed elsewhere into information such as speed, distance and position.
Rotary encoders are used in many applications that require precise shaft position and rotation tracking—including industrial controls, robotics, CNC equipment and many other motion control devices used to accurately locate workpieces in the manufacturing process.
